A Personal God

Does God seem distant and impersonal to you? That would be a shame. God desires a uniquely personal and intimate loving relationship with each one of us. The President of the United States cannot have a personal relationship with every U.S. citizen. But God is capable of having such a relationship with billions of citizens of earth and heaven.

Cindy Hess Kasper:

For the One who made heaven and earth, knowing a few billion people is not a problem. God loves you immensely. He thinks about you all the time, and He knows your name.

Our Daily Bread:

No Christian is anonymous to God.

No religion but Judaism and Christianity have such a God or such a relationship with their God. All religions* consist of men trying to reach God. Only in Judaism and Christianity does God reach down to man. Man cannot reach God. God can reach man. All religions in which men reach out to God are doomed to failure. Judaism and Christianity are the only ones through which God personally reaches down to man, forgives his sin, converts him and begins an eternal personal relationship with him. The relationship is and must be personal on both ends -- God*s and ours.

John 10:3-5: To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

John 10:14: I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

God has a specific day by day and step by step and thought by thought plan for your entire life. That plan is uniquely for you. Part of that plan is that you hear Him, listen to Him, trust Him, obey Him and always seek to know His will. You can learn the guidelines to follow by studying the Bible. The more deeply you are immersed in the Bible the more you will know about the steps of your life that are not specifically covered in the Bible. The more you are immersed in the Bible the more personal will become your relationship with God.

When you look at someone else*s life,
Thinking that it*s better than your own,
Just remember what God*s given you
Was designed for you alone.
God knows every winding way I take,
And every sorrow, pain, and ache;
His children He will not forsake,
He knows and loves His own. -- Bosch

Psalm 121:8: The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Psalm 139:1-18: O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou has beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou are there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother*s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Psalm 40:5: Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

God has more thoughts about each of us than there are grains of sand on the entire earth. How many thoughts do each of us have of Him? His thoughts and plans for each of us are for our eternal good. He expects His plans for each of us to have a perfect and eternal end.

Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Psalm 142:3: When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path.

We sometimes have things that overwhelm us. Those things never overwhelm Him. They are part of His plan for us. They help show us how little we are and how great He is.

Matthew 10:30: But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Those of you who know me personally know that I have lost most of my hair. God knows the date and time and place that I lost each one. And He knows each one that I still have.

Psalm 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

Psalm 40:2: He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

Psalm 40:17: But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou are my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Job 23:14: For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

Job 31:4: Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

Lloyd John Ogilvie:

The Lord has woven all our challenges and opportunities to create the person He has meant us to be. He is the playwright of our experiences, the director of our affairs, the stage manager of our circumstances. All that we might praise Him and live our lives to His glory.

This close personal relationship is only possible if we have a vital connection to God. We who are Christians have been individually transplanted from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. We have been transplanted from Satan*s family into the family of God. We have a new limitless source of life, energy, wisdom and everything else we might need to fulfill that relationship. We are like the branches in Romans 11.

The people of Israel were and are God*s chosen people. Because they rejected God*s Messiah, Jesus Christ, the majority of Israelites have been disconnected from God during our time. God promises to reconnect them at some future time. Meanwhile, we who are Gentiles are getting connected to God. Romans 11 speaks of the Israelites and Gentiles and branches.

Romans 11:7: What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

Romans 11:11-21: I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

What could be more personal than being vitally connected to God like a branch is vitally connected to a root? An incredible privilege is ours that we cannot fully describe or evaluate. Enjoy it! Take advantage of it! Don*t miss it!
