A Renewed Mind

Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

How can we define the renewing of our mind? We can have a renewed mind after we have presented our bodies to the Lord. A renewed mind will understand that it should be dedicated to the Lord (a living sacrifice). A renewed mind will have an interest in holiness rather than being conformed to the world. It will want to be acceptable unto God. It will know that its rebelliousness toward God was and is unreasonable and surrender to Him is reasonable. It will know that God*s will, as opposed to its own, is good, acceptable and perfect. It will therefore want God*s will.

Ephesians 1:18: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

A renewed mind will have a new enlightened understanding of God*s calling. It will know that God*s calling is its only hope. It will know that the true riches are inherited from God only by His children. A possessor of a renewed mind will know that he was wretched and poor and naked before God called him.

Acts 15:8: And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them (the Gentiles) witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; (the Jews) 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Luke 6:45: A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Purified hearts and renewed minds are not identical but they are inseparable. When our hearts have been purified by God and only then, can our hearts have an influence upon our minds. Jesus* presence in our hearts can influence our minds as He could not before He was living in them. Purifying our hearts is totally the work of God and after He has purified them, renewing our minds is our responsibility and it is possible.

Ephesians 4:23: And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

A renewed mind has spiritual capabilities that an unrenewed mind does not.

Ephesians 5:10: Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

A renewed mind is capable of understanding the will of God and wants to do it.

Colossians 3:10: And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

A renewed mind will want to know the Lord better and the better it knows the Lord the more it will be renewed.

Proverbs 16:3: Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Those who are committed to doing what the Lord wants them to do are the only ones who will ever be able to think what God wants them to think. When I am not committed to doing what the Lord wants me to do, my mind does not work nearly as well. The commitment to Him comes first, the renewed mind follows. Why would God improve the mind of someone who serves Satan? To serve Satan better?

The Bible reveals the thoughts of God. A renewed mind will study the Bible.
