We have likely all noticed a pregnant woman and said: Ooooh, you are going to have a baby. Mothers have said after a few months of pregnancy when the baby moves and kicks I feel life. Babies have survived outside the womb much earlier than the usual 9 months in a pregnancy. Those are babies that can survive outside the womb. Earlier babies cannot survive outside the womb. Either way, it is a baby. The time spent in the womb is part of the natural God-controlled pre-birth growth process of a baby.
God created Adam from dust. He created Eve from a rib from Adam. He creates the rest of us through a father and a mother . . . a sperm and an egg. God is the Creator. God decides when to create a person. He decides which men and women will produce a person. He decides which men and women will not produce a person.
Ruth 4:13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
1 Samuel 1:5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
At the minimum abortion destroys the work of God. Whether or not you believe that thing that is destroyed in abortion is a baby you must know that it is a work of God. Destroying the work of God is sin. You must understand that abortion thwarts the will of God.
I believe the Bible teaches that a fertilized egg called a fetus is a person . . . from the very moment of conception. Please read the following passages:
Hannah, the mother of Samuel the prophet had been barren. Her prayer in I Samuel 1:11: And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
The answer to her prayer came in verse 20: Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the Lord.
Leah had been chosen to give Jacob children before her sister Rachel. Genesis 29:31: And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.
Read what Rachel said in Genesis 30:1-2: And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob*s anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God*s stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?
Read what Bathsheba said after David had an adulterous relationship with her in II Samuel 11:5: And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
Elisabeth the cousin of Mary, was 6 months pregnant with John the Baptist when Mary went to see her. Luke 1:36: And, behold, thy cousin Elizabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
Luke 1:41: And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Luke 1:44: For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Psalms 139:14-16: I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Isaiah 44:24: Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
It is obvious from these and many other passages in the Bible that God is the one who decides who conceives and has a baby. The kindest thing that can be said about abortion is that it interferes with the work and will of God. (Sin!)
Genesis 33:5: And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
Psalms 127:3-5: Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are the children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Children are a gift and a reward from God. Discarding a gift or reward from God is an insult to Him and reveals much about how one feels about Him.
Many pro-choice people use the word fetus to describe what is in the woman*s womb. They do that to promote the idea that it is not a baby with the implication that since it is not a baby, it is OK to end it*s life. Medical books say that a fetus is a baby. Fetus is a Latin word. (Latin is used in medical terminology.) Here are the Latin definitions of fetus:
pregnant, fruitful, fertile, teeming with, full of
These are interesting definitions but there is nothing there to indicate a fetus is sub-human or not human.
Whatever you think it is, it is measurably alive and growing. Exodus 20:13: Thou shalt not kill.
That should settle it.
Aborted babies sometimes live several minutes to several hours after an abortion. Not only do the babies die, many of them suffer long periods of time while still in the womb and outside of it before they actually die. (Even a convicted murderer who receives a lethal injection dies in a few minutes.) There have been moving pictures taken of infants shrinking back in pain when the needle penetrates it. Those moving pictures were banned from a Senate hearing because they were too graphic. They were called offensive and unfair. It didn*t matter that they were accurate. If memory serves, the people who attempted to show those movies before a congressional committee were held in contempt of congress. We have many advocates of partial-birth abortion. How can they not see that a baby dies.
It is a horribly sad fact that many mothers have died from illegal abortions. Another sad fact that is not well publicized is that many mothers have died from legal abortions. When abortions were illegal, millions of mothers didn*t have abortions, so the lives of their millions of babies were spared. Sadly, several thousand mothers died. Happily, millions of babies lived. At least 50% of those involved in legal abortions die. The babies are the 50% that always die. Sometimes the mother dies also.
Often the mothers suffer remorse and depression after an abortion, even the ones who haven*t known it was a baby. Those problems sometimes last for years and sometimes even create a need for psychiatric help.
The Pro-Choice movement is misnamed. Perhaps they should call themselves Pro-Choices. Before an abortion a woman has already made three wrong choices. 1. Not to abstain. 2. Not to practice birth control. (There are many methods of birth control that are legal and moral.) 3. Not to give the baby up for adoption. The most accurate name for it would be The Pro-Death Movement.
I don*t believe we could or should punish the more than 40 million mothers who have had abortions since Rowe v. Wade. They have enough problems with their own consciences and will have to stand before God some day. But, I believe a law should be passed that would punish the doctors doing the abortions. That would at least slow down future abortions.
What about rape and incest? Abortion in the cases of rape or incest were legal before Rowe v. Wade and they have always been a tiny percentage of the total. I am not as strongly opposed to abortion in those cases, but I do have a question . . . should an innocent baby be killed for the guilt of one or both parents? I think not. Personally, I believe the only time abortion should be legal is to save the life of the mother.
Drivers of automobiles are ticketed by police for driving babies without properly securing them in safe legal car seats. It is ironic that laws protect them after birth but not before. We live in a sick society.
I would point out that many states now have laws that punish someone equally for murdering a pregnant woman or for murdering her unborn child. For instance, if a mother is shot in the abdomen and lives, but the baby dies, the shooter can be tried for murder. . . . But a mother and a doctor can legally kill her baby here in the U.S.A. God forgive America!!
God made the womb of its mother the safest place on earth for a baby. In America since Rowe v. Wade the womb of the mother is the most dangerous place. More than 40 million abortions have been done since Rowe v. Wade. If anything else killed 40 million Americans we would be up in arms and would see it for the epidemic that it is.
The worst thing and the truest thing that can be said about abortion is that it is murder.
But wonder of wonders . . . God can and does forgive any sin, even the sin of murder. Whatever your sin might be, just ask Him to forgive it and He will!! Abortion is not an unforgivable sin.
Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Jesus speaking in Matthew 12:31a: Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: . . .
David commited adultery and murder but was forgiven. II Samuel 12:13: And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
An Unscientific Personal Note:
I believe that we are persons before we are born. I believe that I was a person before I was born. As a child I often had what I thought was a dream. As an adult I have come to believe that dream was not a dream but a memory. In the dream/memory my body was completely surrounded by and supported by something akin to a glove. When I moved it moved with me. It always fit my body. I had the most awareness of the portion that was under my body and supporting my body. I could sense that it surrounded about 10 percent of the lower portion of my body. I had no sensation of anything above my body. There was a gentle firmness to the part that was under me. It felt like I was in a soft and flexible ever-changing mold. It gently restricted yet conformed to my side-to-side movement. It was very comfortable. The older I get, the less often I have that dream/memory. I believe it was more frequent when I was a child since it was closer to the actual event then. I believe it was a memory from before my birth.
Researchers who study twins sometimes comment that they believe the bonding between twins begins before birth.
Killing their children is a sin that people have been committing for thousands of years, even in Old Testament times.
Ezekiel 16:20-21 Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter, That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?
