Above The Bible
That phrase is repulsive to me as I hope it is to you. But many individuals seem to put themselves above the Bible. They reject it, they ignore it, they don*t read it, they don*t study it, they believe they can do without it and they disobey it.
Psalms 138:2: I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
Since God Himself has magnified His Word, the Bible, above even His own name, how much more must we lowly sinners magnify it above ourselves?
Isaiah 42:21: The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness* sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
Since God makes His law, the Bible honorable how much more should we honor it?
Acts 17:11: These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Ever wish you were nobler? The way to be nobler is to receive the Bible with all readiness of mind and search it daily.
Psalms 119:148: Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.
When we receive the Bible with all readiness of mind, we will search it when it is light and we will meditate upon it when it is dark.
Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is quick, (alive) and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Bible is alive and powerful like no other book.
Psalms 19:7: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Many look for perfection somewhere else but there is no substitute for the Bible.
Jeremiah 31:33: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
James 1:21: Therefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Has God engrafted the Bible into your heart? Is it the most important and influential part of you?
1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Matthew 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Do you desire the Bible? Are you feeding on it? Are you living ON the Bible? Are you living BY the Bible? Or are you putting yourself above the Bible?
In addition to all the spiritual benefits, many practical benefits are promised to those who study the Bible, longer life, peace, favor and understanding with God and man, guidance and better health.
Proverbs 3:1-8: My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
