Accountable And Responsible

All men are first of all accountable to their Creator.

Romans 14:12: So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Christians are accountable to the leaders that God has given them.

Hebrews 13:17: Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Ephesians 4:11-12: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Christians, including the leaders, are accountable to every Christian that they encounter.

Ephesians 5:21: Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

1 Peter 5:5b: . . . all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Christians are responsible for how they live before unbelievers.

1 Peter 2:12: Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

2 Samuel 12:14a: Howbeit, because by this deed (David*s sin with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband) thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, . . .

John 13:35: By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Without Biblical accountability and responsibility, we will not have the help of God or the help of other believers. It will not be profitable for us, we will not be perfected, we will not be doing what the Lord wants, we will not be edified, we will have the wrong influence upon unbelievers, we will not identify ourselves as believers and we will not bring glory to God. The chief reason individuals have for avoiding church is to avoid accountability to God Himself. Close behind that reason is that they want to avoid accountability to other Christians.
