2 Peter 1:3: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
His Divine Power gives us everything that is related to eternal life and godliness, everything that causes life and godliness, everything that life and godliness cause, everything that goes into life and godliness and everything that comes out of life and godliness.
Matthew 22:37-39: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
We are not the source of this kind of love. Loving as He commands is always and forever impossible for us. We do not have the ability to love God with all of our hearts or the ability to love others as we love ourselves. The Holy Spirit is the source of love and it is only possible for us to love with this kind of love when we are filled with the Spirit. Since love is a command, it is not just a warm feeling, it is a choice. When we obey the command we choose to be channels of His love.
1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.
Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
The ability to love God with all of our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves is the gift of God. The choice to love with agape love is given only to Christians, and the power to love comes from God alone through the Holy Spirit alone.
Luke 11:13: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
