An Awesome God
Michael W. Smith: Our God is an awesome God.
Romans 11:33: O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Psalm 96:9: O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
Psalm 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord*s name is to be praised.
When we see and hear a newborn baby, when we look up into the stars, how can we not be in awe of God? When we look at a beautiful sunset or an ever-changing cloud formation, especially one with a silver lining of sunlight coming around the edges of it, how can we not be impressed with his ability to create limitless beauty. Individuals who are not in awe of Him cannot possibly know Him.
Hebrews 11:3: Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
In the first chapter of the book of Genesis God spoke the phrase let there be several times. God . . . just by speaking the word brought some incredible things into existence. Let there be light. Let there be a firmament. Let the waters be gathered. Let the earth bring forth grass. Let there be lights in the firmament. Let the waters bring forth fish and birds. Let the earth bring forth animal life. Let us make man in our image. When God spoke, all those things came into being. You and I live because He created us. And we continue to live because He sustains us.
Acts 17:28a: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; . . .
We are totally dependent upon Him for breath, food, life, health and everything else. If the earth were a few thousand miles closer to the sun, we would be toast. If it were a few thousand miles farther away, we would freeze to death in a moment. Study the hands He created and gave to you. Compare them to the clumsy robots that man has created. At their best they do just one thing. They might do it better than our hands, but it is just the one thing that they were created for. Our hands can write, throw a ball, catch a ball, pick up a dime, scratch our head, play piano. If you think about it, you will be aware of many things, amazing things, we do with our hands. When I do certain things with my hands and as I watch them, I see the mannerisms of my brothers, or my father. God created hands . . . just one little thing of the many that he has created and given us for our benefit and enjoyment.
Psalm 118:23: This is the Lord*s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
Our eyes, when they aren*t damaged by age or disease are amazing. They can see things up close and a second later they can adjust and focus on something far off. We can by turning the eye in the socket see about 80 degrees to the left or right. We can see up or down. They contract in daylight to keep out excess light. They dilate at night so we can see surprisingly well in the dark. When a foreign object approaches we blink so quickly that 99.9% of the objects don*t get in. When smoke or something does get through, the tears form and cleanse the eye. It has been said that there is no product (visene, red out, etc.) that can cleanse the way our God-invented tears do. It is all automatic. We don*t tell our eyes to do any of it. God made our eyes that way.
In addition to all that is automatic, we can take over some control of our eyes. We can blink, close them, open them, look this way or that. We can pick out specific objects or whole panoramas. No camera created by man can come close to what our eyes can do. No camera can understand the beauty they picture or the Creator of it all. The inventors of cameras have learned from God*s creation of eyes and tried to make them work in some of the same ways.
God has done miracle after miracle after miracle. I hold a most wonderful miracle in my hand . . . the Bible. The Bible has been outlawed in some lands, ignored by a majority of mankind, burned, attacked, cut up, criticized and doubted. Satan and his minions have been trying to get rid of it for thousands of years. Yet it has survived every onslaught of demons and wicked men. And it is the best-selling book in the world. God has given it and preserved it for you and me. It*s goal is to help us know God, trust Him and have our sins forgiven. It*s ultimate purpose is that we might get to heaven.
