Are You Growing
Growing spiritually seems to be commanded. It certainly is God*s will and plan for those who are spiritually alive. A lack of growth can be evidence of the absence of spiritual life, a lack of nurture or the suppression of it. If we are not growing we are not being nourished with the Word of God, we are not exercising our spiritual muscles and we are not praying enough. We don*t have the right habits.
1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Ephesians 4:15: But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Acts 24:16: And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
1 Timothy 4:7: But refuse profane and old wives* fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
2 Thessalonians 1:3: We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;
2 Peter 3:18: But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Isaiah 28:9: Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
God starts us off with milk and then adds meat. He gives us what we can handle with His help.John 16:12: I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
Hebrews 5:12: For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Luke 19:17: And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
F. B. Meyer:
God*s promises are ever on the ascending scale. One leads up to another, fuller and more blessed than itself. In Mesopotamia God said, *I will show thee the land.* At Bethel, *This is the land.* Then *I will give thee all the land, and children innumerable as the grains of sand.* And we shall find even these eclipsed.
