Assurance Of Salvation 4
1 John 3:18: My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
Isaiah 32:17: And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Do you lack assurance of salvation? The reason might be that your deeds do not match up with your words or it might be that you are dabbling in sin rather than righteousness. When we are right with God we will be concerned about the souls of others. When we have assurance of our own salvation, we will do more praying, witnessing and sharing the gospel with others. And when sinners are converted to Christ through our prayers, witness and ministry of the Word, we will have greater assurance of our own salvation.
Psalms 51:10: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
It seems to me that believers who do not faithfully and regularly serve the Lord harm themselves by causing themselves a lack of assurance. Kind of like a vicious circle they cannot escape or a merry-go-round they cannot get off. No service, no joy, no assurance, no service, no joy, no assurance and so on.
Every now and then believers ought to take inventory of the benefits of being in God*s will rather than out of it: love, peace, joy, satisfaction, guidance, protection, fellowship with God, correction, forgiveness, persecution, blessings, knowledge, wisdom, renewed minds, growth, security and we can add assurance to the list. And we haven*t even mentioned that the best of the rewards will be out of this world and last forever.
