Bible Study

I am afraid not to study the Bible. Study was a one-word command from Paul to Timothy but should be obeyed by everyone.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

For a believer, not studying the Bible is not an option. Not doing what the Bible commands is not an option. Not knowing what the Bible says is not an option. The Bible nowhere gives us the option of not studying it. If we are disobedient to the Bible we deceive ourselves.

James 1:22: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

If we wrestle with what the Bible says we destroy ourselves.

2 Peter 3:16: As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Adding to the Bible or detracting from it are cursed.

Revelation 22:18-19: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Willing or unwilling ignorance of the Bible will ALWAYS get results we won*t want. Rejecting and ignoring the Bible are rejecting and ignoring the very words of God, kind of like telling Him to shut up. Rejecting and ignoring the words of God are rejecting and ignoring God Himself.

Proverbs 28:9: He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Jeremiah 6:10: To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

Isaiah 5:24: Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

We need the Bible.

Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Luke 11:28b: . . . blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Luke 4:4: And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Job 23:12: Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

We need to study it for ourselves and hear it taught by God*s teachers.

Acts 17:11: These (Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Romans 14:19: Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
