Casualties Of Divorce
Ephesians 6:4: And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7: And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
In most divorces these commands from the Lord are ignored or disobeyed. Very few people who divorce give any consideration to the spiritual damage they do to their children. In most divorces at least one party is out of touch with God and sets a powerfully bad example for children to follow. A parent who is alienated from God will teach a child how to be alienated from Him too. Parents who reject Christ set a horrible example for their children. Divorce harms children but rejecting Christ is the worst thing a parent can do to a child. How many children will follow their parents into Hell or into an ungodly life?
Divorce deprives children of most of the love of one or the other of their parents and probably the love of two grandparents. At best all they will have will be about half of the love that God wants them to have. Before a wife files for divorce she ought to consider the possibility that her lousy husband might be a reasonably good father. Before a husband files for a divorce he ought to consider that his lousy wife might be a reasonably good mother. Before filing for divorce each parent ought to ask themselves this question and several more. Can I do for my children what my mate does for them as well as what I do for them?
Divorces are usually a symptom of pure selfishness, being concerned more with oneself than the welfare of the mate or the children. God*s best plan is for children to have two Christian parents. Parents who love the Lord will also love their mates AND their children.
