Choose You This Day
The word choose appears many times in the Bible. The majority of them refer to people, things and places that God chooses. But He also permits us to make innumerable choices. The most important choice that we make is to trust Him or not. There are choices that we make that are inseparable from trusting Him. There are also choices we make that are inseparable from distrusting Him. The choice to trust Him will always be accompanied by some activity.
Deuteronomy 30:19: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, . . .
Job 34:4: Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
Isaiah 56:4-5: For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
Proverbs 1:29: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Proverbs 3:31: Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
When we trust the Lord we can know what we are trusting, but when we disobey the Lord, we won*t even know what we shall choose.
Philippians 1:22: But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
Trusting the Lord will be proven by what we do. It will not be mere lip service.
James 2:18: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Joshua 24:15a: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; . . .
The phrase: choose you this day applies to every day.
CHOICE AND SERVICE . . . these were demanded of the Israelites; these are demanded of you, these only. Choice and service . . . in these are the whole of life.
Dear Lord: Please help me to make EVERY choice according to your will, hundreds of choices each day, if there are that many.
Matthew 26:39b: . . . nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
