Christians Should Be Team Players

Teams have one leader. Everyone on the team is to follow him. That leader delegates lesser authority to team members of his choosing. Teams will usually have more followers than leaders. Disobedience to the delegated authorities is disobedience to the leader.

We might liken the body of Christ to a team and local churches to teams. I have known many Christians that are not good team players. They do not follow the leader (Jesus) OR His designated leaders. They want to be in charge. If they cannot be in charge of a church they do not want to be part of a church. Some believe that they can function better as Lone-Ranger Christians. Nothing could be further from the truth. A Christian trying to live in solitude has unity with no one. A Christian with no church home has unity with no one.

John 17:11: And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

John 17:21-23: That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

You MUST have your own personal relationship with the Lord and you MUST have a relationship with other Christians. They enhance one another. If you are not praying with other Christians, your prayers and the presence of God will not be as powerful.

Matthew 18:19: Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 18:20: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

If you are trying to stand alone as a Christian, you will be more likely to fall and you will accomplish less for the Lord.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Instead of going to church on Sunday, some go fishing, some go hiking, some stay home in bed. They have a multitude of wrong excuses and reasons to avoid church and to avoid serving the Lord. They miss a lot of special blessings.

Psalms 65:4: Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
