Dates With The Lord
When I was a young man there were occasions when I made dates with girls that stood me up, they didn*t show up. There have also been occasions when men have not kept their appointments with me. Their failures troubled me. I also disappointed others in those ways. Now that I am a Christian I realize that there are times when I foolishly treat the Lord like those people treated me. I stand Him up. In particular, I have skipped church needlessly and I have not met Him in places where He wanted to meet me. The place where we meet Him is in His will. Often the place where we meet Him is in a place where we are serving Him by serving others. We meet with Him in churches, we meet Him when we pray, praise Him, study the Bible or just meditate upon Him. The times believers spend with the Lord are the best times of their lives. Who could love them more and who could possibly be a greater blessing to them. Dates with the Lord happen whenever we confess and forsake our sin and receive forgiveness.
Isaiah 59:2 : But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
2 Corinthians 5:20: Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ*s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Sadly, I know many believers who have not learned how to have these wonderful dates with Him. They stand Him up. He is available every moment of every day.
1 John 1:3: That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
Psalms 84:1-4, 10: How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! 2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. 4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Psalms 23: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name*s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
John 14:2-3: In my Father*s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
The Lord has never stood anyone up who wanted a relationship with Him.
John 6:37b: . . . him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
