Deify (dee-if-fy) Or Defy?
Everyone does one thing or the other with God. They either Deify Him or they defy Him. He is either Deity (God) to them or He is defied by them. Those who defy God will create their own god (small g) whom they believe will tolerate their defiance and still be God.
Those who defy God will want to control their relationship with Him. They will live as if they know better than God. They will try to remake God into what they want Him to be.
The Bible teaches us that when we become Christians we become new creatures conformed to what He wants us to be. Unbelievers try to make God into a new creature that conforms to what they want Him to be.
If God is Deity for someone He (capital H) is the dominant personality in the relationship. If someone defies God he (small h) wants to be the dominant personality in the relationship. God will temporarily permit him to believe that he is the dominant personality. Eventually God will prove that He has always been the dominant personality. Those who Deify God will function within His agenda. Those who defy Him will want Him to function within their agenda. If their god does not dominate he is not God. If their god is not worthy to be dominant he is not God.
Romans 6:13: Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Romans 6:16: Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
1 Peter 5:6: Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
