Don*t Worry, Be Happy

Lord, make me a joyful Christian
That my life may tell for Thee;
O yes Lord, a joyful Christian,
So this troubled world will plainly see,
A life with purpose,
Real peace of mind,
And solid pleasures
Of the purest kind;
Lord make me a joyful Christian;
I want my life to tell for Thee! -- Frank P. Nickel

Don*t worry -- be happy! The world may understand that worry prevents happiness. But they often use those phrases without really understanding their truth or their depth. They are prone to worry. The world is not able to tell you how to not worry and to be happy. They really don*t understand that those are God*s commands to us and that He had those ideas for us first. They don*t understand that God alone can free us from worry. Our flesh doesn*t understand it either.

The Bible tells us how to not worry and to be happy.

Psalm 128:1, 2: Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

Isaiah 26:3: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.

When I was a young child there was a time when I was deathly afraid of fireworks. Our family used to go to see some fireworks on the fourth of July. I was terrified when the fireworks started. I remember my father taking me by the hand out of the grandstand where we watched the fireworks. Having my father hold my hand and take me away from that perceived danger made me feel so very safe.

Now I have an all-powerful heavenly Father. I am in His care. It makes me feel so very safe. When my mind remembers that, I have perfect peace. There is nothing to worry about.

1 Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Psalm 37:7: Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Psalm 37:8: Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Proverbs 19:3: The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.

Sometimes we Christians worry. A worried Christian is a lousy testimony. A worried Christian might as well say Trust my Savior and worry like me. We can*t win anyone to Christ that way.

Deuteronomy 33:29: Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, . . .

Have you been saved by the Lord? Are you happy as a result? If not, why not? No one can be happier than one who has had his sins forgiven.

Psalm 144:15: Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people whose God is the Lord.

Proverbs 3:13: Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Proverbs 14:21: He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

Proverbs 16:20: He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he,

Proverbs 28:14: Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
