Even Jesus Was Submissive
There are many things about Jesus that absolutely amaze me. He wept, He hungered, He became tired, He marveled at the faith of some men and the unbelief of others. Nothing was created without Him. He was made a little lower than the angels that He created. He was subject to His biological mother and His adoptive father, both of whom He created. He was meek and lowly. He was God the Son and the Son of God, and yet He was submissive to His Heavenly Father.John 1:3: All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Matthew 26:39: And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.John 4:34: Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John 5:19: Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.John 5:30: I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
John 6:38-39: For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father*s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.Philippians 2:3-11: Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Hebrews 2:9: But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Matthew 11:28-30: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
If even the only begotten Son of God was submissive to the Father, how much more do we willful rebels need to be submissive? Jesus never had a problem with being humble. But pride is always one of our biggest problems.
