An Evil Thing And Bitter 2
When I forsake the will of God, even for a moment, it is an evil thing and bitter.
Jeremiah 2:19: Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
When we sin He wants us all to learn that it is evil in His sight and bitterness to us. We bring bitterness upon ourselves. We can avoid a lot of bitterness if we will simply study the Bible, meditate on it and obey it. When we forsake the Bible, we forsake the will of the God who wrote it. Neglecting the Bible is a horrible offense. Without the Bible we become weak and helpless. The Bible is not just to be sampled once in a while. We need it desperately. If we neglect the Bible, we will not hear His still small voice either.
I must go back to these basics every day and multiple times each day. The more often I pick up the Bible and read some part of it, the less bitterness there is in my life. Forsaking it leaves room for bitterness. Forsaking the Bible is my most frequent sin. Satan wants us to study anything and everything but the Bible. You can*t study it too much. If you will permit it to, the Bible will give you a taste for its sweetness and a growing hunger for it too.
Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
2 Timothy 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Matthew 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Psalms 119:103: How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
