Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 6:22: But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Multitudes of individuals believe that they will get to heaven because they have done some good things and that they are good enough as they are. But if they could get to Heaven for those reasons, Heaven would be something they earned. They don*t correctly understand that word gift. A gift must be free or it is not a gift. Furthermore, because we are sinners who have sinned, we have already earned something other than Heaven. We have earned and deserve death and Hell.
In a sense, the gift is two things. It is eternal life and it is Jesus.
1 John 5:11: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
While salvation is a free gift, it is a gift that will change us.
2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Multitudes believe that they can enter Heaven who have not been changed by Jesus Christ. They believe that they can reform themselves sufficiently, but they cannot. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, we receive eternal life and we also receive the changes that only He can make in our hearts, minds and lives.
Jeremiah 13:23: Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
He wants to make us new creatures with Him living in our hearts, possessing eternal life and who want to do good instead of evil. When He lives in our hearts He enables us to do good instead of evil. Without Him living in our hearts we can do nothing good. With Him living in our hearts we CAN do what He has planned for us to do.
Romans 3:12: They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
John 15:5: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
He saves us for the purpose of taking us to Heaven, but He also saves us so that we will live our lives in His will, and according to His plan. He wants to work in us and through us, and miraculously, He is able to. He does not just want to live in us, He wants to work in us.
Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Have you received the heart-changing, the person-changing and life-changing Jesus? For about 43 years I was an unbeliever stubbornly clinging to all of my old sinful life. Then I received Jesus but still clung to some parts of my old sinful life. I have now learned that in the times of my life that I give to Him I am more abundantly alive. I want to be more abundantly alive all the time. I don*t want Satan to steal any part of the gift my Lord wants to give me.
John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
