The Gift Of Righteousness

Romans 5:17-18: For if by one man*s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

2 Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The concept that righteousness can be and is a gift from God to men is foreign to the human mind. In and of ourselves we believe that we are righteous and that we do not need the gift of God*s righteousness. According to the Bible, none of us are righteous and none of us do righteousness. We need the gift of righteousness to get into Heaven. (Revelation 21:27a: And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth,) And we need the gift of righteousness to live a victorious Christian life. Revelation 21:27b: . . . they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

We all inherit unrighteousness and judgment from our first father, Adam. (Romans 5:18b: by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; . . .) We all need the righteousness of Jesus which is the gift of God. (Romans 5:18c: . . . by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.)

Until unbelievers learn these truths and believe them, they will not know they need Jesus and they will not receive Him. Even after we receive Jesus these truths are foreign to our flesh. When the righteousness of God goes to work in us and through us our flesh wants to claim that righteousness as its own. It is not. It is the righteousness of God working in us. Our flesh will also struggle to prevent the righteousness of God from working in us.

We Do Not Have Righteousness:

To unbelievers this is the most objectionable truth in the Bible.

Romans 3:10 -12: As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Isaiah 64:6: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Psalms 14:2-3: The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Isaiah 53:6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Philippians 3:9: And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Romans 10:1-3: Brethren, my heart*s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God*s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Righteousness Is The Gift Of God:

To believers this should be the most delightful truth in the Bible.

Romans 4:3: For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

1 Corinthians 1:30 a: But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, . . .

Ephesians 5:9: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Philippians 2:12-13: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

1 John 5:11: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

It is also true to say He that hath the Son hath righteousness; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not righteousness.

Have you received Jesus and is His righteousness working in you and through you?
