Give No Place To The Devil

1 Peter 5:8: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 4:27: Neither give place to the devil.

How do we give place to the Devil? We do not submit ourselves continually to the Lord, we are not serious about giving no place to the Devil, we drop our guard and we do not resist him. There are over 20 things we can do to avoid giving place to the Devil listed in Ephesians chapter four and the list is certainly not complete. Verse 27 above is the centerpiece of the passage.

Ephesians 4:14: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ*s sake hath forgiven you.

I would suggest that we also give place to the Devil whenever we speak idle words, whenever we waste time and when we simply forget to ask for God*s guidance. It would be one of the wisest things we could do to list the multitude of ways in which we ignorantly give place to the Devil so that we can do a better job of sinning no more.

James 4:17: Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Romans 14:23b: . . . whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Even believers commit a multitude of sins that they do not know about and that they need forgiveness that they don*t even know they need.

Leviticus 4:2: Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them: 3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.

Leviticus 5:17: And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD; though he wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.

We are ignorant of how often we give place to the Devil and of the greatness of God*s forgiveness toward us.

1 John 1:7: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from ALL SIN.
