Given Continually To TV
Before I received Jesus much of my life was given continually to TV and many other pursuits. My life was given continually to everything but God. When we receive Jesus, He wants to change that and He has the power to change it when we are willing.
Acts 6:4: But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
Even after I received Jesus, early on much of my life was given to TV and other pursuits. I thank God that as He has provided spiritual growth for me it has been growth away from TV and other things and into more prayer, more study of the Bible, more hearing it taught, more sharing it with others and more time in obedience to Him. Spiritual growth is simple. It is giving more and more of one*s time and energy to the Lord, and less and less to everything else. I still have a long way to go. How about you? The best examples were given to us by the early church.
Acts 1:14: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Acts 2:1: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 2:42: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles* doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Acts 2:46: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Acts 5:42: And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Acts 17:10: And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Psalms 34:8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
I would challenge you to taste the blessings of God by giving just a little more of yourself and your time and energy to Him. And then He will enable to you to give a little more and a little more to Him. Perhaps He will help you to quit the world cold turkey. Perhaps that should be the norm, rather than quitting the world inch by inch as I did. Perhaps my flesh was more stubborn than yours. God is worth it. Giving ourselves to Him is worshipping Him.
1 John 2:15: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
