God Does A Better Job
Matthew 6:10b: . . . Thy will (instead of mine) be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
When we are wise we will ask for His will very often. God does a better job being in charge of me than I can do being in charge of myself. And He can do a better job being in charge of you than you can do being in charge of yourself. God also does a better job of making us happy than we can do of making ourselves happy. And yet our flesh stubbornly fights to be in charge of us. Our flesh also wants to be in charge of others. We SHOULD desire that God will be in charge ourselves and of others. I want to follow spiritual leaders, Pastors, teachers and examples who want God in charge of them and who also want God in charge of me.
Jeremiah 10:23: O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
Psalms 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
The steps of man without God are the wrong way. The way of God is the right way. Since the way of man is the wrong way God cannot delight in the man*s way. When a man*s steps are ordered by the Lord, the man will delight in God*s way.
Psalms 37:4: Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
It means that the Lord will correct the desires of your heart.
Adam Clarke*s Commentary on Psalms 37:4:
Delight thyself also in the Lord. Expect all thy happiness from him, and seek it in him. The godly man never indulges a desire which he cannot form into a prayer to God.
Matthew Poole*s Commentary on Psalms 37:4:
Delight thyself in the Lord; in his favour and service, and in the study of his word and promises. The desires of thine heart, thy just desires, or whatsoever is truly desirable and good for thee; which limitation is necessarily to be understood, both from divers places of Scripture, and from the nature of the things; for it is unreasonable to imagine that God would engage himself to grant their sinful and inordinate desires, and it would also be a curse to them to have them granted.
Thomas Scott on Psalms 37:4:
To delight, not in earthly possessions, enjoyments, and distinctions, but in God, in knowing, loving, and worshipping him, and enjoying his love; and to delight in contemplation, devotion, and admiring praise, is to be spiritually-minded, like the inhabitants of heaven, and qualified for their felicity (blissful happiness). He that seeks delight in worldly objects very seldom obtains the wishes of his heart: but all the Spiritual desires and requests of those that delight in God will be granted, nay, far exceeded.
Isaiah 58:14: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
