God Fights For His Own
2 Chronicles 16:9: For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Christians are involved in a war on three fronts. There is a battle between you and your flesh, a battle between you and the world and a battle between you and Satan. The good news is that the Lord is on your side and you are guaranteed victory.
1 John 5:4: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
It should be greatly encouraging to us to know that we have the same God who fought for the people of Israel. The warfare He frequently waged for them is an example of the spiritual warfare He wages for us.
2 Chronicles 20:15: And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God*s.
The people of Israel were to fight against the enemies of God. They themselves were one of the weapons God used to accomplish His will. In a large sense the battle was God*s but in a small sense the battle was also for the people of Israel. It works the same way for Christians. In a large sense the battle is God*s and in a small sense it is for Christians.
Christians are often what God Uses to accomplish His will. They could be called His weapons or His missiles. Each weapon and each missile is designed for specific goals. Many weapons of modern warfare are designed for multiple purposes. Christians are also designed for multiple purposes.
Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
God gives Christians an incredible arsenal of ammunition, tools and weapons. Each item in their arsenal deserves a separate Bible study. If you are a Christian the Lord wants to hit particular targets with you. He gives you everything you need to succeed and a far better guidance system than any military weapon ever had.
2 Peter 1:3: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Psalms 37:23a: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: . . .
You might know from reading these articles that I love lists. Here is a partial inventory of the mind-boggling arsenal that is available to Christians:
2 Corinthians 6:4-7: But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
Ephesians 6:13-18: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
2 Peter 1:2: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue; Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
