The god Of The Self-Willed

I have used small letters in the name of that god. Only the true God deserves to have His Name capitalized. Proper names are capitalized. The god of the self-willed does not exist and is therefore not a proper name. The self-willed are their own gods and are therefore their own idols. The god of the self-willed will always fail to meet your spiritual need. The god of the self-willed will never even fulfill what he seems to promise. The god of the self-willed is spiritually impotent. The god of the self-willed goes by many names. Here are a few:

The god who we can manipulate.
The god who lets us have our own way.
The god who makes all of his people healthy and wealthy.
The god who does not require obedience.
The god who wants us to feel good about ourselves.
The god who wants us to feel better about ourselves than we feel about him.
The god who does not require worship.
The god who tolerates sin.
The god who permits us to reject Bible doctrines that are distasteful to us.
The god who permits us to write our own Bible.
The god who does not require our whole being.
The god of our imagination or someone else*s imagination.
The god who does not require us to be humble before him.
The god who does not change us.
The god who is not holy and does not require holiness.
The god who does not require a commitment.
The god who permits us to define faith.
The god who permits us to define him.
The god who is reachable without Christ.
The god who does not speak through the Bible.
The god whose Bible has errors.
The god who fits within men*s limited understanding.
The god who does not work miracles.
The god who is impersonal.
The god who changes. The god who does not mean what he says.
The god who is not sovereign.
The god who is not the creator.
The god of man-made tradition.

By now you may have gotten the idea. Every man who is not a believer in Jesus Christ has many gods. Until he believes in Jesus Christ he makes up his own gods. He goes his own way.

Isaiah 53:6a: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way;

Proverbs 14:12: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Jeremiah 17:5: Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

Psalms 146:3: Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

Psalms 118:8: It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

Proverbs 12:15: The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Proverbs 21:2: Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

1 Corinthians 12:2: Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

Galatians 4:8: Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

Men are lost among gods of their own making. One who has been saved will sometimes understand that he had believed in idols. He will know that he never sought God and that it was God who sought him and found him and saved him. He will know that his being saved was performed for him and on him by God alone and that no idol could have done that!!

Romans 3:11: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

We need to worship God and God alone. We ought to pray the words of songwriter James L. Nicholson:

Lord Jesus I long to be perfectly whole. I want You forever to live in my soul. Break down every idol, cast out every foe. Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

If you are self-willed and still believe you are a Christian, how can you or anyone else believe that?

This study appears on two titles, The god Of The Self-Willed and The god Of Self Determination.
