God Is Faithful

I have had many people in my life I couldn*t depend on. They promise to do something -- and they don*t do it. They promise to be someplace at a certain time -- and they don*t show up. They owe you money -- and they don*t pay. We all have had people like that in our lives. A couple of people have borrowed money from me and not repaid me.

Of course, we have also had some very dependable people in our lives. People we could depend on. People we could set our watch by. Life is certainly better when dealing with that kind of people.

What would it be like if we had a God who promised to forgive our sins -- and didn*t. Or who promised to meet our needs -- and didn*t. Or who promised to take us to heaven -- and couldn*t. Thank God He is not like that. God is so faithful in so many ways no human can know them all. Here are just a few in no particular order.

Lamentations 3:22-23: It is of the Lord*s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

What a difference it would make in our lives if we could discover more about God*s faithfulness. The more we understand the greatness of His faithfulness, the less reasons we will manufacture not to trust Him.

The sun rises faithfully every day, whether we see it or not. God causes that and He is more faithful than that. The seasons faithfully come and go. God causes that and He is more faithful than that. We may have faithful mates, family members and friends. God is more faithful than them. A dog is often admirably faithful to his master. God is more faithful than that. God is supremely faithful.

II Thessalonians 3:3: But the Lord is faithful, who will stablish you, and keep you from evil.

I Thessalonians 5:24: Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Revelation 1:5b: . . . Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Deuteronomy 7:9: Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him to a thousand generations.

Joshua 23:14: And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

Psalms 36:5: Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

II Timothy 2:13: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Hebrews 10:23: Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

The words (the Bible) of the faithful God are also faithful.

Revelation 21:5b: . . . And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Psalms 119:86a: All thy commandments are faithful: . . .

Psalms 119:138: Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.

Often in the Old Testament, the nation of Israel is pictured as the unfaithful wife of Jehovah. But God has always remained faithful to them. Horror of horrors, we Christians are also unfaithful to Him at times. Thank God He is always faithful to us.

The important thing is not your faith, but the object of your faith.
