Good Defined

Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

In verse 28 all things work together for good. And in verse 29 He predestinated us to be conformed to the image of his Son. God and we mortal men have a very different idea of what good means. Our definition of good is to be trouble-free and have every need met and also some of our desires. God*s definition of what is good for us is to be like His Son. For us good is having what we want. To God good is us being what we need to be. So what is Jesus like and how should we become like Him?

Hebrews 5:8: Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Do we learn obedience by the things that we suffer?

Matthew 20:3-34: They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. 34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

Do we have compassion on others because of their difficulties? Do we do what we can to help them?

John 11:35-36: Jesus wept. 36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

Is our love shown by our weeping for others? Do we have a heart of love for them?

Titus 2:12: Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Do we want to be more like Him in this world?

1 John 3:2: Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 Corinthians 13:12: For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

We can become more and more like Him, even in this world. Becoming like Him is a growth process. Are we like Him? At least a little bit? If we are not growing in our likeness to Him we are not growing at all.
