Matthew 5:13: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Luke 18:19: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
Since we are good for nothing, and Jesus (who is God the Son) is the only man who is good, the only thing that can make us good for anything is having Him living in our hearts. And when He is living in our hearts He will also change our lives from good for nothing to good for something.
Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
(The fulness of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.)
