Good For Nothing 2

Psalms 39:5: Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.

Ecclesiastes 6:12: For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

Ecclesiastes 12:8: Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

Old Testament definition of vanity and vain: Emptiness or vanity; figuratively, something transitory and unsatisfactory; often used as an adverb, altogether vain, vanity.

James 2:20: But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

New Testament definition of vain: Empty.

Matthew 5:13: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Without God we and our lives are good for nothing. The good news is that He wants to make us and our lives and our eternities good for something.

Luke 18:19: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

Since we are good for nothing, and Jesus (who is God the Son) is the only man who is good, the only thing that can make us good for anything is having Him living in our hearts. And when He is living in our hearts He will also change our lives from good for nothing to good for something.

Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

(The fulness of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.)

Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Ephesians 5:9: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness)

Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
