The Gospel For The Hard Of Hearing

I often encounter people with hearing problems in nursing homes. I have shouted the gospel to some of them, sometimes fruitfully. One morning I met a man who could probably not hear one word of ten that I spoke to him. I wrote out a verse from the Bible for him in large print. I was convicted because I was unprepared to share the gospel with those who are hard of hearing. So I wrote it out and printed it in large type. Elderly people who lose some of their hearing often lose some of their eyesight as well and aren*t very skilled at reading lips. You are welcome to print this out, or any part of it, put it in large print and use it for hearing impaired people that you may minister to. I am confident that many of you are better at sharing the gospel than I am and you may have better scriptures for that purpose than I do. Some hearing impaired individuals might be offended if they know you are giving them something that you prepared only for the hearing impaired. I would suggest you use a title such as The Simple Gospel.

The Simple Gospel

If you are on your way to Heaven, God wants you to know it. If you are not on your way to Heaven, He wants you to know that so that you will be willing to get on the right way. When I ask individuals if they know for certain they will go to Heaven when they die I get all kinds of answers. But most of them tell me that they don*t know or they hope so. The Bible teaches that we can know for certain. In fact, much of the Bible is written for that purpose.

1 John 5:13: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If you don*t know for certain, you are probably not saved. The first verse and a half that I will share here are bad news. If you don*t read past those two verses, you may never know.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

You and I have sinned. Every mortal man has sinned. We have disobeyed God.

Romans 6:23a: For the wages of sin is death; . . . *

Because we have sinned we have earned and deserve death which means Hell.

Romans 6:23b: . . . but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Many people stumble over that word gift. They believe that if they do a lot of good things or go to church often enough and do what they are told there they will get to Heaven. But if we got to Heaven for those reasons, Heaven would be something that we earned. A gift must be free or it is not a gift.

Jesus deserves Heaven.

Hebrews 4:15: For we have not an high priest (Jesus) which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

We deserve Hell. Because He endured what we deserved in our stead, He can give us what He deserves.

Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

While the gift is free, it is a gift that will change us. The gift is eternal life and the gift is through a person who will change us, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:23b: . . . the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Some reject Jesus because they do not believe that they need to be changed or they do not want to be changed or they think they can change themselves sufficiently to please God. They cannot. The Bible describes this change in men in many ways. Born again, converted and saved and so on.

Someone who was not a child of God becomes one.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Someone who was lost becomes saved.

Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Someone who was a servant of sin becomes a servant of God.

Romans 6:13: Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

One whose sins were unforgiven becomes one whose sins are forgiven.

Acts 26:18: To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

A person who did not have Jesus living in his heart begins to enjoy His presence there. Jesus changes us when He lives in our hearts.

Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

A person who receives Jesus receives eternal life and begins living it then and there.

1 John 5:12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

We get this wonderful gift when God offers it and we ask Him for it.

Isaiah 55:6: Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you have a sense that He wants you to, you ought to pray and ask Him to save you just now. The words of the prayer are not as important as putting your faith in Him. You might pray these words:

Lord Jesus, please save me. Come into my heart and forgive my sin. Change me into the person you want me to be. Direct my life and help me to be obedient to you. Thank you. Amen.
