Haters Of God
When we become saved, it is shocking to see clearly how wicked we were. And it can be a bigger shock when we learn that our flesh is still wicked and will always be wicked.
Romans 8:7: Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Some of us were pretty good at hiding our wickedness before we were saved but it was always there lurking in our hearts, ready to explode into our behavior.
Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
In the following four lists of the sins of unbelievers, in a quick count, I found I was guilty of at least 23 of them before I was saved. I don*t even know what some of the sins are and don*t want to know. How about you? You may not be ready to admit you were a hater of God but if you are honest you will certainly find enough sins you have committed to fall on your face before Him in shame.
Romans 1:28-30: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
1 Timothy 1:12-13: And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
2 Timothy 3:2-4: For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
1 Corinthians 6:9-11: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Thank God for His abundant forgiveness.
Luke 7:47: Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
The more you take an honest inventory of yourself and how much God has forgiven you, the more you will love Him. Thank God that He helps us keep our flesh under.
1 Corinthians 9:27: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Thank God that He can keep us from temptation.
Matthew 6:13a: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: . . .
Thank God that the Bible can keep us from sin.
Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Thank God that the Holy Spirit can keep us from the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
And again, thank God for His forgiveness.
1 John 1:9-10: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
