Here And Now Salvation
1 Timothy 4:8: For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
Salvation is not just for the distant future. It is for here and now. It is not just fire insurance to keep us from condemnation, out of Hell and out of the Lake of Fire. Salvation saves us from a life of sin here and now. It changes our way of life from sin to righteousness. There is much in the Bible that speaks about the here and now of salvation.
Having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
Before we receive Jesus into our hearts all we are is a bunch of unforgiven sinful fleshly individuals. When we receive Jesus we are given a new nature that battles against our old flesh.
Ephesians 4:22: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Before I received Jesus I sometimes believed that I was a Christian but I did not have a new nature doing battle with my old flesh. When I thought about salvation I always thought of it as a future event. I now know that it NOW IS and IS TO COME. Until and unless we have here and now salvation we do not have salvation to come. Following will be some passages that deal with here and now salvation.
Psalms 84:11: For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
Walking uprightly is to be here and now.
Psalms 23:2: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name*s sake.
John 10:27: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
His leading us and our following Him are to be here and now.
Psalms 46:1: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalms 119:114: Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Proverbs 2:7: He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We won*t be sinning in Heaven. He forgives us and cleanses us here and now.
2 Corinthians 4:16: For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
1 Peter 1:5: Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Philippians 1:6: Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
He has begun a work in us and He will perform it, not just at the day of Jesus Christ, but UNTIL the day of Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:9a: For we are labourers together with God: . . .
ARE is in the present tense. Has His work on us made us into individuals who are working with Him? Are we permitting Him to work in us and in our lives? Do we have salvation here and now?
