Honoring Him Gives Joy Unspeakable
John 5:23: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
How do we honor Jesus? We trust Him. We surrender to Him. We trust Him with our hearts, our lives, our thoughts, our bodies, our minds and our actions. Doing these things all the time in this life is impossible for us but with God they are possible. To the extent of His will He helps us to do them.
Matthew 19:26: But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
He provides us with the ability to trust Him.
Hebrews 12:2a: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; . . .
When His mighty hand goes to work on us we become humble and surrender to Him.
1 Peter 5:6: Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
More than one commentary tells us that Solomon speaks this plea on behalf of God to every human:
Proverbs 23:26a: My son, give me thine heart, . . .
Luke 9:24: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Proverbs 16:3: Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
The oftener we ask God for His will, the oftener He will give it.
Matthew 6:10b: . . . Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Everything that we give to Him, He blesses and returns to us better than we gave Him. We come to Him sorrowing and He gives us joy unspeakable.
1 Peter 1:8: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Our pride wants to exalt ourselves. God is better able to exalt us than we are. He knows when to do that and how to do it. When we trust Him with our very selves, He lifts us higher than we could ever lift ourselves. Look again at 1 Peter 5:6:
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Psalms 34:8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Proverbs 10:22: The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
There are great troubles that come to us in this life but the unspeakable joy that we now only taste once in a while will one day be our constant diet. A constant diet of that joy here and now would be too rich for us. Our minds and bodies can*t always handle it but our hearts thrive on it. One day, even our minds and bodies will be able to. All of it really is just a gift He wants to give us. He knows how much of it to give us now and how much to give later.
Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
