In An Horrible Pit
Psalms 40:2: He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Physically people know it when they are in an horrible pit or miry clay. But when they are in a spiritual pit and clay they do not know it until the Holy Spirit reveals it to them.
Revelation 3:17: Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Ephesians 4:17: This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Acts 26:18: To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Romans 1:21: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
2 Corinthians 4:3: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Matthew 13:13: Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
Luke 8:10: And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Mark 4:12: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
1 Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Before I received Christ and was converted and forgiven I thought that born-again Christians were foolish. Now I know that I was a fool. We don*t learn that we were fools until we are saved. It is not easy to convince a spiritual fool that he is a fool. That is the work of the Holy Spirit, but He does speak through us to others. Our job is to give them the Word of God and tell them what He has done for us.
Acts 1:8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Here are some of the most important passages from the Bible they should hear:
Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Mark 1:15b: . . . the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
People might believe that you are being cruel when you share Bible truth with them, but it is one of the most loving things you can do for them. Not doing it is like a doctor not telling a dying patient that he needs surgery. They need to know they are in an horrible pit.
