Just Jesus

There is a hymn in many old hymn books by George O. Webster and Charles H. Gabriel. The title of the hymn is a very simple statement. But it states the most crucial need of any man*s life, or for that matter, of any man*s eternity.

I Need Jesus

I need Jesus, my need I now confess;
No friend like Him in times of deep distress;
I need Jesus, the need I gladly own;
Tho* some may bear their load alone,
Yet I need Jesus.

I need Jesus, I need a friend like Him
A friend to guide when paths of life are dim;
I need Jesus, when foes my soul assail;
Alone I know I can but fail,
So I need Jesus.

I need Jesus, I need Him to the end;
No one like Him, He is the sinner*s friend;
I need Jesus, no other friend will do;
So constant, kind, so strong and true,
Yes, I need Jesus.

Need Him in the sunshine hour,
Need Him when the storm clouds low*r
Every day along my way,
Yes, I need Jesus.

I John 5:12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

We need Jesus, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. We need the Jesus of the Bible, not an imitation. We need Jesus, who is the Son of God and God the Son. There is no suitable substitute. We need 100% of Him, not just a little of Him. Jesus minus any part of Him is not Jesus. Jesus plus anything else is not Jesus. You will never have an excess of Him. He is a resource you will never exhaust. He will always be enough.

A life with Jesus in it is the greatest adventure a man can have. Let*s not drag our feet, let*s get on with that adventure. Don*t settle for less. It*s a great honour and privilege to be saved by Jesus Christ. Be mindful also that the majority of mankind doesn*t get that honour and privilege.

Matthew 7:13-14: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Revelation 1:8: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

When He says He is the beginning and the ending, it is implied also that He is everything in between. Jesus is all we need. Can you sing this wonderful old hymn by Rufus H. McDaniel and Charles H. Gabriel and mean it:

Since Jesus Came Into My Heart

What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought
Since Jesus came into my heart!
I have light in my soul for which long I had sought,
Since Jesus came into my heart!
I have ceased from my wand*ring and going astray,
Since Jesus came into my heart!
And my sins, which were many, are all washed away,
Since Jesus came into my heart!
Floods of joy or my soul, like the sea billows roll,
Since Jesus came into my heart!

Here are some nuggets you might enjoy that might help you know Jesus better. They are quotes by J. Vernon McGee on his radio program Through The Bible Radio.

Jesus never sought advice.
Jesus never changed his mind.
Jesus never got in a hurry.
Jesus never showed any personal fear.
Jesus never made a mistake.
Jesus never showed surprise.
Jesus never was defeated in controversy.
Jesus never performed a selfish miracle.
Jesus never mistrusted God.
Jesus never denied a good request.
Jesus never confessed a sin.
Jesus never apologized for anything he did.

He who is the bread of life began his ministry hungering.
He who is the water of life ended his ministry thirsting.
Christ hungered as man and fed the hungry as God.
He was weary yet he is our rest.
He paid tribute yet he is the king.
He was called a demon and he cast out demons.
He prayed and yet he hears prayers.
He wept and he dries our tears.
He was sold for 30 pieces of silver and redeems the world.
He was led to the slaughter and he*s the good shepherd.
He dies and gives his life, and by dying destroys death.
