Learn To Pray Like David

Acts 13:22b: . . . he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Even though he was a king, the man after God*s own heart knew that He needed to pray specifically about everything so he could fulfill all of God*s will. We also need to become people after God*s own heart, pray specifically about everything so we can prove the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. We must not presume that we will always know His will and have it without asking for it.

Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Read just a few of the things David prayed about as they are recorded in the Psalms.

Psalms 19:13: Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

51:1-15: . . . Have mercy upon me, O God, . . . blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; . . . 9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 14 . . . Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: . . . 15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

139:23-24: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

140:1: Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; . . .

140:11a: Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: . . .

141:3-5a: Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. 4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. 5 Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; . . .

141:8-10b: . . . leave not my soul destitute. 9 Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. 10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, . . .

142:6-7b: Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. 7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: . . .

143:2a: And enter not into judgment with thy servant: . . .

143:7-12a: Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, . . . 8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; . . . cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; . . . 9 Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: . . . 10 Teach me to do thy will; . . . lead me into the land of uprightness. 11 Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name*s sake: . . . bring my soul out of trouble. 12 . . . cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: . . . 144:5a, 7, 11a: Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: . . . 7: Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;11a: Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, . . .
