Lonely For Jesus

Galatians 4:19: My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

Several times I have heard it expressed approximately this way: We all have a Jesus-shaped hole in our hearts and lives where no one else and nothing else will fit perfectly.

The Bible says many times that Jesus answered and said. But most of those times the Bible does not record that anyone had asked a question. We not only don*t know the answers, we don*t even know the questions.

There is something in us all that is lonely for Jesus. That loneliness cannot be satisfied by anyone or anything else. Tragically, we do not even know that many times what we are lonely for is Jesus. Jesus is the answer but we don*t even know the question. Saying that Jesus is lonely for us may be a stretch but that thought might make us more willing to be with Him.

He loves us, comes to us, wants to sup with us, invites us to Himself, wants to be in us and with us and wants us to be in Him and with Him. He wants fellowship with us and He promises never to leave us or forsake us. He promises to keep us with Him forever. Being with the One who loves us is what will make Heaven Heavenly. He died for us so we could be with Him forever.

Revelation 3:20: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

John 14:3: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

1 John 1:3: That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 13:5: Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

1 Thessalonians 4:17: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

When we spend time with others who have Him in their hearts, His is with us in a greater way.

Matthew 18:20: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

We have a multitude of opportunities to be with Him but we miss many of them. When we do not read our Bible, meditate upon Jesus, pray and serve Him, we will be lonely for Him and will not even know what we are lonely for. Then we will not know what or who to seek or what to do. Consider the refrain of Anne Murphy*s song Constantly Abiding.

There*s a peace in my heart that the world never gave, A peace it cannot take away;
Though the trials of life may surround like a cloud, I*ve a peace that has come here to stay!

Refrain: Constantly abiding, Jesus is mine; Constantly abiding, rapture divine;
He never leaves me lonely, whispers, oh, so kind: *I will never leave thee.* Jesus is mine.

All the world seemed to sing of a Savior and King, When peace sweetly came to my heart;
Troubles all fled away and my night turned to day, Blessed Jesus, how glorious Thou art!

This treasure I have in a temple of clay, While here on His footstool I roam;
But He*s coming to take me some glorious day, Over there to my heavenly home!
