Mercies And Compassions
Lamentations 3:22-23: It is of the LORD*S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22: It is of the LORD*S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
I rejoice that those words are plural. I need them to be plural. It is only because of His mercies that He did not consume me this morning, yesterday or any of the days before that. I am often horrified by the sins I commit that I know about. But for every sin I commit that I know about there are probably dozens more that I don*t even recognize. We need to know as much as we can about the limitless mercies of God.
Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
It is only by the mercies of God that we can present our bodies to Him. It is only by His mercies that our bodies can be a living sacrifice. It is only by His mercies that we can be holy and acceptable unto Him. It is only by His mercies that we can do what is reasonable. It is only by His mercies that we can prove what is His good, acceptable and perfect will.
Psalms 86:3: Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
Luke 18:13: And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Like David and the publican, we all need to personally seek, experience and enjoy God*s mercies every day. And we ought to praise and thank Him for them.
Psalms 117:2: For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.
Psalms 119:58: I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.
Psalms 119:76: Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
And of course, we need to be like our Heavenly Father. We need to be merciful to others too.
Proverbs 11:17: The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Matthew 5:7: Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Luke 6:36: Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Hebrews 8:12: For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
God is merciful to us because of our sin and in spite of it. We need to be merciful to others because of their sin and in spite of it. If you have never wept tears of joy for God*s mercies, I feel sorry you. If you have not been troubled by your lack of mercies toward others you are not right with God.
