Mercy

American Tract Society Dictionary definition of mercy:

The divine goodness exercised towards the wretched and the guilty, in harmony with truth and justice. Psalms 85:10: *Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.* The plan by which God is enabled to show saving mercy to men, for Christ*s sake, is the most consummate work of infinite wisdom and love. The soul that has truly experienced the mercy of God will be merciful like him. Luke 6:36: *Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful* . . . compassionate to the wretched, and forgiving towards all.

The mercy of God is not getting the justice we who were wretched and guilty deserve.

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalms 103:10: He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

Nehemiah 9:31: Nevertheless for thy great mercies* sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

God is able to extend mercy to merciless sinners because Jesus received the justice that their sins deserved. Mercy plays a huge role in our salvation and in our lives after salvation.

Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Ephesians 2:4-5: But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,

Hebrews 8:12: For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Luke 1:77-78: To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

It is only through the mercies of God that we are able to present ourselves, our bodies and our lives to Him.

Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Psalms 136 says in all 26 verses that his mercy endureth forever.

2 Corinthians 1:3: Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

Have you experienced the mercy of God? Have you experienced His mercy from others? Are you merciful? Am I?
