Miserable Fools

What miserable fools we are when we resist anything that God wants, when we resist His commands and especially when we resist what He puts within us.

Numbers 16:5: And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

Proverbs 18:24: A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

It would be an unspeakable privilege just to come near unto God. It would be an even greater privilege just to have Him as a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. But these privileges are just a pittance when compared with the mysterious treasure of having Jesus formed in us, dwelling in us, working His will in us and through us, surrendering our thoughts to Him and having Him ordering our steps.

Colossians 1:27: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Galatians 4:19: My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

Ephesians 3:17a: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; . . .

Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

John 7:38: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Psalms 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

That word ordered is worth studying. Strong*s Concordance:

It means all of our steps and everything else. It orders our intellect, our mind and thoughts, our feelings, our will and our understanding. It orders those things by mild rebuke or warning.

I think of it as both giving orders and putting things in order.
