More Alive 2
During much of my life I am uninteresting and uninterested. But when I am serving the Lord I am somehow more alive. I am invigorated. I am satisfied. My physical needs and desires go into the background. I am also more alive when I am fellowshipping with other believers, when I am preaching or praying or hearing others preach or pray, or when I am writing a Bible study or reading one some other believer wrote.
When His disciples expected Jesus to be hungry for food He was satisfied by something else. He was satisfied by serving God and serving others. He satisfied the appetite of His soul by serving His Father. That can be more satisfying than feeding our body for us too.
John 4:31-34: In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Christians who serve the Lord understand the more abundant life that is in them in ways that carnal Christians and unbelievers cannot.
John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Galatians 2:20b: . . . I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Phillips Brooks: The man who lives in God knows no life except the life of God.
If you are wise, you will step back and observe the differences in yourself and your feelings when you are serving God and when you are not. It might give you more desire for spiritual food and less for physical food.
Job 23:12b: Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
