Most TV Keeps Us Away From God

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Good and perfect gifts seldom come through TV. They came from God before TV and they will come from God after TV. They come in spite of TV, and seldom because of it. TV often deprives us of the blessings of God.

Hebrews 11:6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

He rewards those that diligently seek Him with the good and perfect gifts. When we watch TV we are seldom diligently seeking Him and we seldom get the good and perfect gifts.

Psalms 84:11: For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

When we watch TV we are seldom walking uprightly and we often are rejecting His good things.

Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

When we watch TV we seldom have fullness of joy or eternal pleasures.

Psalms 46:10a: Be still, and know that I am God: . . .

TV disturbs our stillness.

Psalms 1:1-2: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

When we watch TV we are usually hearing the counsel of the ungodly. We are often standing in the way of sinners and the seat of the scornful. We are usually not delighting in the Bible and we are not meditating upon it.

Romans 1:28-29a, 32: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, . . 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

When we watch TV we are seldom retaining God in our knowledge. When we watch TV we are often having pleasure in the evil of others. God is not pleased by evil individuals OR by those who enjoy watching their evil.

Psalms 101:3: I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

When we watch TV we are often setting a wicked thing before our eyes. If we hate the work of them that turn aside, we will not want to watch their work on TV. When we do watch TV some of the evil will cleave to us.

I became saved while listening to Christian radio and some are blessed by God through Christian TV. God can and does use Christian media, but that is rare. Of the hundreds of Christians I have met, only a handful have come to Christ through the media. Some of the most Biblical, most fruitful and most delightful Christians I know don*t even own a TV. The less I watch TV, the more time I have for the Lord and the better my relationship with Him gets. You and I need the Lord. We need the Bible. We do not need the TV.
