No Limits Upon God
There are no limits to God*s love, power, mercy, grace or wisdom. He is infinite. He is not immeasurable. We are the only part of God*s universe that can limit Him. Every other part of His creation obeys Him perfectly.
We can have all of God that we want. There are no limits to how much of ourselves and what we possess He will accept and use and bless. Our natural inclination is to limit God and His influence on us. It is our natural inclination to limit how much of ourselves we give to Him. If it were up to us we would give Him no part of ourselves. It is impossible for our flesh to want God or to give itself to Him.
Romans 3:11: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Romans 8:7: Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
1 Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
We need to become unnatural people. We need to be made different. We need to be made new. We need to be remade. Only God has the power to do that.
2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
It would be wrong for me to paint my neighbor*s house red without his permission. My neighbor has the right to choose what color he wants His house. He owns it. If I bought his house I would then own it and have the right to choose what color it should be. It is a little like that with God. He does not change people that do not willingly belong to Him. His power is limited by a lack of ownership. When we give ourselves to Him His power to bless is unleashed.
God owns you and me because He created us. He doubly owns us because He bought us back from the devil and from sin, which had become our masters. The Bible says that we are redeemed. Redeemed means bought back.
1 Peter 1:18-19: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1 Corinthians 6:20: For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God*s.
1 Corinthians 7:23: Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
Usually it is our strong resistance that keeps Him from doing what He is able to do and what He wants to do. He has given us some ability to limit Him. His limitlessness operates when we are limited. His limitlessness operates when we genuinely want it to. We need to get out of His way. We are often too clumsy to do that. When we are unwilling to get out of His way He sometimes does His will by weakening us. We would be better off if we got out of His way willingly.
2 Corinthians 12:9: And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Complete exposure to God and His holiness would kill us in an instant because of our sin. When we get to heaven we will be able to handle complete knowledge of Him. God sometimes limits Himself for our benefit.
Exodus 33:20-23: And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
When we get to heaven we will have ALL of God and all of His will. When we get to heaven He will have all of us and all we possess. Those things will make heaven heavenly. Heaven will be the way God wants it. The way He wants it will be wonderful for us and for Him. In this life we do not understand what is wonderful. We all have our own ideas for a designer heaven, a heaven made the way we would want it. We also have our own ideas for a designer world. We want God to make it the way we want it. We have our own ideas for a designer Christianity. If you want a puny little God who will create your own designer Christianity for you, you have a puny little God who cannot get you to heaven.
The God of the Bible offers Himself to us. The Creator of the universe offers Himself to us. Almighty God offers Himself to us. The loving God offers Himself to us. The living God offers Himself to us. The all-wise God offers Himself to us. The God of all glory offers Himself to us. The God who gives us life and everything else offers Himself to us.
Too many reject Him and accept tiny little powerless gods. Too many reject Him and accept non-existent gods. Too many reject Him and accept Satan*s substitutes. They accept the god of the television set, the god of alcohol, the god of drugs, the god of money, the god who gives us our own way, a god who demands nothing, a god who deserves nothing, a god they can control, a god who is evil, a god of convenience, a god who gives nothing, a god who has nothing or even a god who is nothing.
People will accept a god who won*t change them, a god who doesn*t require a commitment or a god who does not take charge. They will accept a percentage of God. They will delete truth about God and then think they know Him. They will try to modify god and think they know Him. They mutilate God in their minds and think they are worshipping Him. They are willing to accept gods that they can take or leave. They will accept gods they can ignore. They are willing to accept gods they can keep in a box. They are willing to accept more than one god.
They are willing to accept a god who will accept crumbs and call it worship. They are willing to accept a god they can meet once a week or once a day. They are willing to accept a god that considers them worthy. They are willing to accept a god who doesn*t demand humility. They are willing to accept a god they can manipulate. They are willing to accept a god the human mind can contain. The god of the human mind is not God. The god of the human mind is not worthy. The god of the human mind is impotent.
Those who underestimate God also overestimate themselves and thereby condemn themselves. To put it in the current vernacular God correctly says: It*s my way or the highway! It*s all about Me! A young woman once told me she was looking for someone to love her just as she is. She was an undeserving mess. We are all undeserving messes. God alone is worthy to be accepted and loved exactly as He is.
