One Man*s Prayers

James 5:16: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

If you are a Christian and have ever had a prayer answered you already have proof that the prayers of an individual are important. If you need more proof attend a prayer meeting and listen to the praise given to the Lord for answered prayers. If you need Biblical proof read about Jehoahaz. One man*s prayers impacted a nation.

Israel, God*s chosen people didn*t always choose Him. Sometimes they rejected Him en masse and were given leaders that facilitated a downhill slide away from Him. Sometimes He gave them leaders that started a downhill slide. Sometimes they sought the Lord almost unanimously and sometimes He gave them a leader that would bring them back to Him.

In the following passage just one man caused Israel to sin and then just one man sought the Lord and He gave them a partial and temporary saviour. If you study the context of the passage you will find that the man that sought the Lord was not perfect. That eliminates one of our excuses not to pray.

2 Kings 13:1-5: In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days. And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them. (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.

Are you neglecting to pray fervently for the nation in which you live? Are you praying that it will please Him? Are you praying that He will use it to accomplish His purposes?

Romans 8:26: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

There goes another excuse we have for not praying.
