Our Own Worst Enemy

There seem to be seeds of self-destruction in all of us and especially in unbelievers. In believers those seeds affect only their flesh. It does not affect their new and eternal nature.

How many people smoke? How many do drugs? How many drink alcohol to excess? How many overeat? How many risk VD and Aids? How many drive recklessly? How many sky-dive? How many climb rock walls and mountains? How many don*t believe that tempting God is a very risky sin? How many avoid sound medical and physical advice? How many reject Christ, the source of life and health? How many don*t believe that sin causes death? How many don*t believe that sin shortens life? How many don*t know they are already spiritually dead? How many don*t believe there is a direct connection between sin and death?

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ezekiel 33:11: Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Hosea 9:9: They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.

Hosea 11:6: And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.

Hosea 13:9: O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

Proverbs 6:32: But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

1 Corinthians 11:29: For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord*s body.

Romans 13:2: Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

2 Peter 3:16: As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Ephesians 6:1-3: Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Proverbs 10:16: The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

Proverbs 11:19: As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

Proverbs 19:23: The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
