Persecution 5

John Walz, missionary to Taiwan: Many Christians struggle with understanding the purpose of suffering, some even think it is a sign of God's abandonment. Yet the symbol of our faith is a wooden cross designed to cause suffering.

Three times the devil tempted Jesus to bypass his ordained suffering, and each time the Lord confounded the devil with God's word.

Don't give into the same temptation to abort the glorious suffering we share with Christ and find strength in God's word.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Psalms 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

1 Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

1 Peter 2:20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 3:14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
