The Plague Of Our Hearts

People don*t seek a cure for illness if they don*t know they are ill. Surprisingly , many who have read the Bible from cover to cover have no knowledge of the desperate condition of their hearts. Unbelievers in particular do not understand the depth of evil that resides in their hearts. Only after one becomes a Christian does he begin to get that troubling knowledge.

Proverbs 1:7: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Blessedly, knowledge of good and wonderful things also begins when one becomes a Christian.

2 Peter 1:2: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

I am so happy that grace and peace are multiplied to us and that our plague is subtracted when we become Christians. John 1:29: The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1 Kings 8:38-39: What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house: Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)

Here is just a smattering of the verses in the Bible that deal with the plague of human hearts:

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Genesis 6:5: And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Genesis 8:21: And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man*s sake; for the imagination of man*s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

2 Chronicles 12:14: And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

Proverbs 12:20: Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

Ecclesiastes 8:11: Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Ecclesiastes 9:3: This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

Jeremiah 7:24: But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
