Pride Ruins Everything
Proverbs 6:16-17a: These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, . . .
God loves us. That is why He hates our pride. I shall share some truths from a recent message by Pastor Kent McBay. We all have pride. The worst thing about it is that it prevents and ruins relationships with God. It also ruins relationships with others. Pride tries to put self in God*s place. It believes that self does not need God. It says that self knows better than God. It rejects God*s authority. It wants to make its own decisions. It rejects the Bible. It separates from God. It is opposed to God*s will. It is unconcerned about His will. It always gets undesirable results. It is easy and automatic to hate pride in others but we barely notice it in ourselves. Believers learn to hate the pride in others AND the pride in themselves.
Proverbs 8:13: The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 11:2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. 14:3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. 21:24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath. 29:23 A man*s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Proverbs 15:25: The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. 16:19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. 21:4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. 21:24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath. 28:25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.
Daniel 4:37: Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
James 4:6: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
1 Peter 5:5-6: Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
