Pride

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

C. S. Lewis provided some very wise insights into pride in his book, Mere Christianity:

We loathe this sin in others even though we are unaware of our own pride.
Lewis never heard any unbeliever confess his pride.
Unbelievers do not show mercy to the pride of others.
There is no fault that makes a man more unpopular.
The more pride we have, the more we dislike it in others.
It was through pride that the Devil became the Devil.
Pride is the complete anti-God state of mind.
You can prove to yourself how much pride you have by asking yourself how much you dislike it when others snub you, don*t pay attention to you or patronize you.
Pride is competitive.
Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next guy.
Pride enjoys power.
