Removing The Barriers
The moon generates no light of its own. It merely reflects the light of the sun. It is the same with Christians. They generate no light of their own. They can only reflect the light of Jesus.
John 8:12: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 9:5: As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
When Jesus was in the world He was the light of it. Now He wants us to reflect His light in it.
Matthew 5:14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Reflecting His light is the only way in which we can be the light of the world. Let*s try to get up on that hill and stay there.
The moon is sometimes shielded from us by clouds and sometimes it is eclipsed from the sun by the earth. But the moon never gets so dirty that it cannot reflect the sun.
We mortals sometimes get too dirty to reflect His light. We go down into the valleys and canyons of sin. We cannot be the light of the world if we are dirty mirrors. We cannot reflect the light of Jesus if we let the dirt of sin get between us and Him. Neither can we reflect His light to others when there is the dirt of sin between us and them. Sin is a powerful barrier. When we put sin between us and God it can be removed by seeking forgiveness. When we put sin between us and sinners we need to remove that barrier. Most of the barriers between us and sinners seem to be put there by them. We are responsible for removing the barriers that we put there. And God can overcome the barriers that they put there.
Colossians 4:3: Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
The creatures on our side of the barriers are already Christians. So the creatures that we need to preach the gospel to are all on the other side of some barrier. Getting rid of the barriers is tougher for us than preaching the gospel. There is only one gospel and we can count on it to bear fruit. But there are multitudes of different types of barriers so that part of the battle is the part with which we need God*s help the most. It is the part of the battle where we need God*s wisdom and guidance as well as His gospel. It is the part of the battle that needs the most prayer.
Consider whatever it is that keeps you from sharing the gospel with someone. It might be the other fellow*s hatred for you. It might be his behavior. It might be the physical distance he puts between you and him. It might be the cult that he belongs to. It might be your lack of faith. Your lack of faith is the biggest barrier and it is the only one YOU can get rid of. God*s love can work like a periscope or a battering ram. His love can go around barriers, under them, over them or knock them down. We need the kind of faith that believes He wants to save others and that He can save them. We need to believe that no barrier can stop Him or us when we obey the Lord and go into all the world.
Mark 16:15: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
