Salvation Can*t Be Anything But A Free Gift
Isaiah 55:6: Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Without His coming near we cannot find God. It would be easier for us humans to nail jello to a mirror than to find God. He is a Spirit. We cannot see Him. We cannot reach Him. We need Him but cannot find Him. HE must make Himself available to us. HE must find us. HE must contact us. HE IS GOD.
We need forgiveness but it must originate in the one doing the forgiving. We need His righteousness which we do not have and cannot produce. We need His saving mercy but all we can attain is condemning justice. We need to live a different sort of life which we are incapable of living. We need to be new creatures and cannot recreate ourselves.
Salvation is life. Salvation is a superior kind of life. Salvation is eternal life.
John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
1 John 5:12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Ephesians 2:4-5: But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
The physical lives we now have are not an accomplishment of our own. We did not create them. We did not earn them. They were given to us. Neither is eternal life an accomplishment of ours. We cannot create the eternal kind of life. We cannot earn it. It must be given to us.
We are weak, needy, ignorant and helpless in everything spiritual. The ONLY way we can possibly have anything of spiritual value is if it is given to us as a gift! Praise God!! Every spiritual necessity IS given to us as a gift.
2 Peter 1:3: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
1 Corinthians 4:7: For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
Forgetting that all spiritual things are gifts makes us ungrateful and proud. We need to remember who we were, what we were and what we still are in our flesh. Pride always tries to convince us that we can work our way into heaven. Some people*s pride convinces them that they have already done that. Humility knows that they cannot and have not.
